FIELD GUIDE

Understand the workflow before relying on a result

Plan around the final use

A voice memo, transcription, extracted soundtrack and forensic inspection have different requirements. Choose the shortest workflow that produces the needed result. Repeated transcoding reduces quality and can make later analysis more difficult.

Understand browser limitations

Available codecs, speech-recognition support and maximum practical file size differ across browsers and devices. A workflow that succeeds on desktop may need a smaller file on Android. Keep the original media and test exported files in the application where they will be used.

Respect consent and rights

Technical ability to record or convert media does not create permission. Obtain required consent, respect copyright and avoid publishing private voices or images. High-stakes authenticity decisions should rely on preserved originals and qualified examination rather than one automated indicator.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Media Tools FAQ

Why does speech recognition differ by device?

Browser and operating-system support, language models, microphone quality and network conditions can vary.

Does extracting audio improve quality?

No. Extraction preserves or converts the available track; it cannot restore detail missing from the source.

Can video metadata prove editing?

Metadata can provide clues, but it may be rewritten during normal export and is not conclusive by itself.

Why does a large file fail on mobile?

Browser tabs have limited memory. Reducing duration or using a desktop may help with large media.
