Technical Overview & Use Cases

This converter fetches real-time exchange rates from the open ExchangeRate API (open.er-api.com), which provides daily-updated rates for 170+ currencies sourced from central banks and financial institutions. Conversion uses cross-rate calculation: amount / sourceRate * targetRate (where all rates are relative to a common base). Rates refresh when you change the source currency, ensuring you always work with the freshest available data for that pair.

Real-world use cases:

Privacy & Security Guarantee

This tool is part of the FAK LAB ecosystem, founded by Faizan Ahmad Khan Khichi. While this tool makes an API call to fetch live exchange rates (necessary for accuracy), no personal data is sent — only the currency code. Your conversion amounts, financial calculations, and usage patterns are never logged or transmitted. The API request contains zero personal identifiers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How frequently are exchange rates updated?

Rates are updated once daily from central bank sources. For most use cases (budgeting, invoicing, comparison shopping), daily rates are more than sufficient. For real-time trading or forex applications requiring second-by-second accuracy, dedicated financial data feeds are recommended.

Why does the converter need an internet connection?

Unlike other FAK LAB tools that work offline, the currency converter must fetch live exchange rates from an API — currencies fluctuate daily and offline rates would quickly become inaccurate. The API request is lightweight (a few KB) and completes in milliseconds on any connection.

Are cryptocurrency conversions supported?

The current API provides fiat currency rates only (government-issued currencies like USD, EUR, PKR). Cryptocurrency rates (BTC, ETH) are not included as they require specialized real-time market data feeds with different update frequencies.
