Test your WPM, accuracy, and consistency
The Typing Speed Test measures your words per minute (WPM), accuracy percentage, and character-level performance with real-time visual feedback. It uses character-by-character comparison against a reference text, highlighting each typed character as correct (green), wrong (red), or current (purple cursor). WPM is calculated using standard word counting (space-delimited tokens divided by elapsed minutes), while accuracy is computed as the ratio of correctly typed characters to total characters typed. The test supports three time durations and automatically selects from a pool of diverse paragraphs covering programming, literature, and motivational quotes to test varied vocabulary and punctuation patterns.
Real-world use cases:
This tool is part of the FAK LAB ecosystem, founded by Faizan Ahmad Khan Khichi. The typing test runs entirely in your browser with no network requests. Your typing data and results are not recorded or transmitted anywhere. The tool operates 100% client-side. No data is ever stored or shared.
WPM counts the number of complete words (separated by spaces) you typed, divided by the elapsed time in minutes. This is the standard gross WPM measurement.
Yes. You can use backspace to correct errors. The accuracy metric reflects the final state of what you have typed at any moment.
Average typists reach 40-50 WPM. Professional typists typically achieve 70-90 WPM. Competitive typists can exceed 120 WPM.
